2.4.a Describe the BYOD architecture framework

Bring Your On Device – refers to the policy of permitting employees to bring personally owned devices (laptops, tablets, and smart phones) to their workplace, and to use those devices to access privileged company information and application.

  • If your phone does not provide encryption, you cannot connect to the network.
  • IOS needs to be updated
  • Company needs to be able to configure it (MDM)
  • Putting the phone in a separate VLAN

2.4.b Describe the function of mobile device management (MDM)

Mobile device management provides unified management of mobile devices, Macs, PCs, and the entire network from a centralized dashboard.

MDM is usually implemented with the use of a third party product that has management features for particular vendors of mobile devices. MDM is part of BYOD infrastructure.

With MDM, companies can enforce device security policies, deploy software and apps, and perform remote, encrypts network and data, remote wipe (lost or stolen) live troubleshooting on thousands of managed devices.
